A Tribute to Dolly Ramos Alfonso
June 12,1947- June17,2007
To those of you who have known Dolly for a long time or just recently, there is nothing else I may not add to what you already know about her. Somehow, we are here because she has touched our lives on way or another.
Dolly we all know was a beautiful person, both internally and externally. She has a way of turning the simplest thing into something beautiful. She seemed to have an affinity with flowers. It was reflected in her flower arrangements, art creations and beautiful gardens. I will not be surprised if she is already making flower arrangements in Heaven right now.
The first time I met her, I was so impressed with all the creative items she decorated the nooks and crannies of their house which added warmth to their home. She could easily have been a first rate interior decorator because of her natural flair for what is beautiful.
As a wife, Dolly was a sterling example of what a wife needs to be. We could have learned a lesson or two from her. Although she was a very independent woman who easily adapted to any situation, Dolly was always the caring wife who never forgets to give her husband Rudy the respect and attention due to him. In any situation that called for a decision, Dolly always referred to “DADA” first before making any commitment. “Dada” we all came to know was Dolly’s term of endearment exclusively for Rudy.
As a schoolmate and friend, Dolly was a very dependable person whom we have relied upon for most of our activities. Maybe it is too late to acknowledge this, but no affair could have been arranged as orderly and as successfully as all the affairs we had for our organization if not for Dolly’s patience, perseverance and tireless efforts. Most of us have been complacent and sometimes inactive, because we came to rely that Dolly would do it.
There is a saying that we do not realize the value of somebody until that person is gone. Dolly is a perfect example. We took it for granted that she will always be around and we did not have the chance to say thank you to all her efforts for our organization. So tonight, we hope Dolly that you will accept our heartfelt gratitude to everything that you have done for our alumni association. May God be with you always. To Dolly’s family especially her husband Rudy, thank you for sharing Dolly with us and we hope and pray that your sorrows will soon turn to infinite feeling of peace and healing.
